Sacro-Occipital Technique

Sacro-Occipital Technique (S.O.T.) is a nonforce method of chiropractic analysis and treatment which was developed by Dr. M.B. DeJarnette in 1925, it has continued to evolve based on scientific research.

S.O.T. is a very comprehensive approach to chiropractic.  It does not limit itself to the spine only, but rather involves nonforce methods of treatment for the extremities, viscera and cranium

We structurally divide patients into one of three categories based on observation and examination of the spine and cranium.

A category one patient has restricted joint motion in the pelvis, a category two has excessive mobility and instability in the pelvis, a category three has restricted motion in the articulations of both the pelvis and the cranium.  Each of these categories then has typical patterns of biomechanical dysfunction that manifest in other parts of the body, such as the extremities, viscera or cranial bones; as well as other parts of the spine itself.

Correction of these distortions, to relieve your symptoms, is done by a combination of gentle manipulations or stretches done by the doctor's hands; and by having the patient lay on padded wedge-shaped blocks under their pelvis.

Treatment time in this office averages 10 - 15 minutes, with extra time allowed for your initial visit.

Home care such as nutrition, exercise and other lifestyle changes will be discussed as indicated by your symptoms and examination.  Please feel free to ask any questions you may have.
